The work

HutSix developed a custom CRM for the Western Cape Communities Trust (WCCT) that transformed royalty payment distribution, eliminating manual paperwork and unreliable identity verification methods. This robust, cloud-based system ensures efficient, secure royalty management across remote areas, with ongoing improvements supporting financial compliance and access for remote users.

The Challenge

The Western Cape Communities Trust (WCCT), managing Indigenous land use agreements in Queensland, faced major hurdles in distributing royalties effectively to shareholders across remote communities. Their system relied on manual records and paper-based identity verification, which posed significant barriers for community members lacking standard identification like passports or driver’s licences. This outdated approach complicated timely, accurate payments, hindering WCCT’s ability to support scholarships, grants, and infrastructure initiatives vital to the region.

The Solution

HutSix designed a bespoke, cloud-based CRM that streamlined WCCT’s complex royalty distribution process. This centralised platform allows for real-time data access and automated grant management, removing the administrative burdens of manual data entry and paper records.

By integrating Facebook profiles as consistent identifiers, we introduced a secure identity verification system that meets the unique needs of this remote demographic.

The Impact

With the new Royalties Distribution App, WCCT’s monthly royalty payments are now distributed accurately and securely. What was once a laborious, paper-heavy process has become efficient, enabling shareholders to access grants and apply for funds in just a few clicks.

This innovative system has brought transparency and accuracy to royalty payments, empowering WCCT to fulfil its commitments under the Indigenous Land Use agreement with confidence.

Continuous Improvement

HutSix’s partnership with WCCT continues to evolve, with a focus on ongoing enhancements that increase functionality and accessibility. Current efforts include integrating the CRM with accounting software for seamless invoicing, automating reports to support strategic decision-making, and enabling offline grant applications for remote communities.

Our goal is to ensure WCCT’s system remains adaptable, supporting the community’s development and providing a foundation for long-term growth and inclusivity.

The CRM has become the central portal for all of CRANAplus’ work, it currently consists of 500,000 lines of code, and processes:
